In some parts of the country, older people have been locked in their rooms in nursing homes during the pandemic, Ekot reports.
The survey shows that staff and family members have raised the alarm about the procedure about 15 times to the Swedish Health and Care Inspectorate (Ivo). Some of the municipalities notified have investigated the events.
Among other things, an old man with dementia was locked up in a house in the municipality of Partille with the help of a cabinet for the door. Also in Borås, staff have locked up the elderly, blocking doors with armchairs and books.
– The staff were willing to do anything to prevent the spread of infection in that situation. The measure of deprivation of liberty does not have legal support for a nursing home and for the elderly, and could have endangered the lives, health and safety of users, says Jeanette Zachau, socially responsible coordinator at the Borås municipality.
