Propaganda Soccer by MFF
In the first qualifying round, Malmö FF scored the lead goal after 23 seconds at home against Krakow Kraków. This time it took five minutes. But after just over half an hour, it was 3-0. This after an impressive first half in which almost the entire game took place in the NK Lokomotiva half of the field. MFF played exactly how he wanted with lots of runs, deep shots, and a successful combination game. They managed to free the four offenses in more or less free positions, this without injuring Anders Christiansen and Ola Toivonen who have been equalizing hard lately. Also, the press game was first class. The 4-0 came in the 52nd minute after a high quality long shot from Eric Larsson, with his left foot, and the 5-0 was created after an attacking pattern that was finished by the always equally reliable Sören Rieks.
Kiese Thelin double hit after five goalless draws
The forward’s goal on 23 August against Falkenberg marked a shooting league advantage in the Allsvenskan with nine goals scored. In the five games he has played since then, Isaac Kiese Thelin has been scoreless and also got stuck on the bench in last week’s EL tie against Honvéd. Kiese Thelin also hinted at yesterday’s press conference that he didn’t feel as involved in every game, which was also the sensation when MFF attacked recently. Against Lokomotiva, he finished the suite scoreless by scoring two goals in the space of 17 minutes. Tonight, Kiese Thelin cannot complain about the delivery of his teammates, and no one can blame him for his auction.
Extremes contribute a lot, in different ways
Jo Inge Berget and Sören Rieks have more or less made their places on the offensive edges of MFF. In different ways, the edge duo contribute to making MFF a tough team to take on. Berget is perhaps the strongest offensive player in MFF right now. Tireless as always and brings quality in both runs and touches of the ball offensively. Sören Rieks continues to contribute points and a lead in the last third. Tonight he needed an unusual number of shots to score, but in the end the Dane was left there with one goal and two assists.
Sammir a shadow of his former self
Croatian coach Sammir was heavily involved when Dinamo Zagreb eliminated the MFF from Champions League playoff games in the 2011/12 season. Now the 33-year-old was back on Scanian soil in another Zagreb team jersey. Of course, Sammir showed that he still has a lot of strength and ball in him. But the attacking midfielder is far from being the same player as before. Sammir was closely watched by the MFF players when he received the ball and was not really a threat at all. The heavily fiery rated Lokomotiva is also not the same team that finished second in the Croatian league and cup last season and failed to offer any support to the team’s star.
The worst team MFF has known since winter
The Europa League qualifier has behaved in such a way that MFF put their most difficult team in the first qualifying round. Krakow offered tougher opposition than Honvéd in the second round, which in turn was significantly better than Lokomotiva. In fact, MFF have not faced a worse team since the Swedish Cup group stage match in February / March. The Croats were weak in both defensive and attacking play, and the effort reflected the club’s poor start to the league. Now, much tougher opposition awaits in the playoffs for MFF. Regardless of whether it will be Spanish Granada or Georgia’s Lokomotive Tbilisi, the degree of difficulty will increase several levels next Thursday in Malmö.
