Saltholmen will have increased surveillance by police, security guards and cameras

On Tuesday, the decision was made to secure Saltholmen. The moderates and alliance colleagues did something in common with the Democrats and made the decision. The Social Democrats also voted in favor of the proposal.

According to the politicians, the location of the Saltholmen ferry is an unsafe place and therefore it is necessary to secure the place with, for example, camera surveillance, improved lighting and increased police surveillance.

– If I stop at a city stop and there are people who make me feel unsafe, then I can go to the next stop. It’s very difficult to do it in Saltholmen, then your feet get very wet, says Henrik Sjöstrand (M), second vice-chairman of the district committee, to GP.

Police: nothing that stands out

According to the police, there is nothing that stands out when it comes to crime in Saltholmen. Even if they are not against the measures, Niklas Svensson, a municipal policeman in the local police area to the south, claims that there are other places in south-west Gothenburg that are significantly more affected by crime.

– I would like to see better lighting and a more beautiful place. They can apply for a camera permit, there are rules on how it should be done. But for the police, we sit down all the time and examine the places where we have the most problems and get the most effect, he tells GP.
