Last week, 341 new cases of covid-19 were noticed in Västra Götaland, an increase of 37 cases compared to the previous week. At the same time, the region has relatively few seriously ill patients.
A total of 46 people were treated for covid-19 in hospitals around Västra Götaland, of which 6 people were in the intensive care unit. During yesterday, September 23, there were a total of 42 hospitalized patients, of which 5 were in IVA.
Proportion of patients that tested positive for COVID-19 in so-called PCR tests – that is, ongoing infection testing – has dropped from two to one percent. The proportion that tested positive for antibodies remains at 8 percent, the same number as last week.
At the same time, Thomas Wahlberg, the region’s infection control physician, warns against continued caution.
“We must all continue to assume responsibility for reducing the spread of the infection. We must not neglect the recommendations, if we do, we will continue to increase and that more people will need hospital care,” he says in the press release.
Many are now infected according to Wahlberg, through social activities where a greater number of people meet at the same time.
“Now we see that there is a spread of the infection after the holidays, where it may have been difficult to comply with the recommendations on distance and hand hygiene,” says Thomas Wahlberg in the press release.
The Swedish Public Health Agency has warned of local outbreaks of infection and a similar pattern can be seen in Västra Götaland. In the region, Borås is particularly affected by many new cases.
