According to the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, all Milan team players underwent corona tests on Wednesday, after defender Léo Duarte tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week.
And on his website, Milan writes that the test results show that Zlatan Ibrahimovic has now been infected with the coronavirus.
– Yesterday he did a test and we learned the result a while ago. I can’t say more right now, a press spokesperson in Milan tells SportExpressen.
The club writes that the Swedish star was immediately quarantined at his home. Milan also announces that all other players and leaders have shown negative test results.
Gary Lineker’s prank at the expense of the virus
The news that Ibrahimovic has been infected with the coronavirus has caused some football profiles to joke on social networks.
“Our thoughts are with the virus in these difficult times,” wrote English soccer legend Gary Lineker on Twitter.
“Correction: Covid-19 has tested positive for Zlatan-11,” writes Norwegian Nents expert Jan Åge Fjörtoft, referring to Zlatan’s shirt number in Milan.
In March, Ibrahimovic started a charity fund to raise money for health care in northern Italy, which was later hit hard by the coronavirus. Zlatan himself donated a million crowns to the collection.
Zlatan has a crown: he misses the Europa League qualifiers
Milan will face Norway’s Bodö / Glimt in qualifying for the Europa League on Thursday night, a match Zlatan will be forced to put aside due to the positive test.
The fact that Zlatan Ibrahimovic misses the match is a serious setback for Milan. The 38-year-old striker showed great form at the Serie A debut, scoring twice when Milan defeated Bologna 2-0.
When the team’s fixed star is missing, young attacking trio Daniel Maldini, Lorenzo Colombo and Samu Castillejo will take their place in Milan’s squad against Bodö / Glimt.
