On Monday, the 47-year-old South Korean disappeared from a ship at sea near North Korea’s southwestern border. Abandoned on the ship, he left his shoes, which has raised suspicions that he wanted to enter North Korea, according to BBC.
Later that day, the man, who was clinging to a float, was discovered by a North Korean patrol boat in North Korean waters.
Burned the body
North Korean soldiers on the scene must have received orders to shoot the exhausted man, which they also did. Then the soldiers, dressed in gas masks, must have poured gasoline on the man’s body and then set it on fire.
Several international media outlets suggest that the action has to do with the harsh laws of the North Korean crown, which dictate deadly violence to prevent the infection from crossing the border.
Condemn the act
South Korean authorities have strongly condemned North Korea’s actions and demanded an explanation.
But nothing has been heard from North Korea yet.
It is currently unclear how South Korea obtained the information, as North Korea has previously destroyed the countries’ common military phone line.
