The Nobel Foundation raises the prize money of SEK 10 million before this year’s Nobel Prize is awarded, writes Dagens Industri.
“It is important that you get a significant sum,” Lars Heikensten, outgoing executive director of the Nobel Foundation, told the newspaper.
The sum has previously been reduced in a savings program. In 2012 it was reduced from SEK 10 million to SEK 8 million, to increase to SEK 9 million in 2017.
“The decision was made because we have a stable cost-to-capital ratio in a completely different way than before. Basically, it reflects the desire to gradually increase the sum of the price, ”says Lars Heikensten.
Earlier in the week, the Nobel Foundation announced that this year the traditional dividend at the Stockholm Concert Hall will be canceled due to the corona pandemic. Instead, a televised awards ceremony is planned where winners will participate from their home countries.
