For four weeks, the worrying trend of increasing numbers of corona cases in Sweden has persisted.
Something that the Public Health Agency usually explains with increasing sampling and that fall colds are here.
The epidemiologist: “It can spread rapidly and unpredictably”
Jonas Björk is an epidemiologist at Lund University and raises his finger in warning.
– I think we should be concerned about the Stockholm signals, he tells SvD and develops his reasoning:
– It is dangerous to spread the perception that even in the Stockholm region we have achieved basic protection which means that the same cannot happen here. This spring, we learned that this virus can spread rapidly and unpredictably, and then it is difficult to protect at-risk groups.
He refers, among other things, to Danish professor Kim Sneppen, who said that Sweden’s, compared to Denmark’s lower infection rate, may be due to the fact that a higher proportion of the population has developed immunity.
Difficulty in balancing between opening for visits to nursing homes
Jonas Björk is divided ahead of the opening of nursing homes for visits in October.
– It’s a tough tradeoff. There are many factors on both scales. I don’t think it is clearly wrong to lift the restraining order, but you should always be vigilant and prepared to reconsider this and other decisions if the spread of the infection increases to higher levels, he tells SvD.
