Warning signs are ringing across Europe: We are heading towards a second wave of Covid-19.
In Sweden, the situation runs the risk of getting worse than in the spring.
– We are heading into winter and the weather is against us, it will be more important than ever to help, says Professor Niklas Arnberg.
Respect may be over.
More and more European countries report a steady increase in the spread of infection. Danish Minister for Children and Education, Pernille Rosenkrantz-Theil, writes in a letter to Danish parents that they must cancel all children’s activities. In the UK, new stricter restrictions are being introduced and in Northern Ireland the Health Minister warns that the time gap to avoid a second wave is narrowing rapidly.
The number of new cases is also increasing in Sweden, although not as dramatically as in many other countries. Stockholm and Västmanland are two regions where the trend is heading in the completely wrong direction. In Stockholm, this is a doubling from 254 new cases to 539.

The director of health and medical care, Björn Eriksson, has sounded the alarm: if the evolution is not reversed, the situation in Stockholm will soon become serious again.
The professor of virology at Umeå University, Niklas Arnberg, fears that we will also have another wave in Sweden.
– As it develops in Europe, but now also in Sweden, it seems difficult to keep the general spread of the infection under control.
According to the professor, it is too early to say how bad it will be for Sweden.
– But the spread of the infection is also likely to increase during the autumn in Sweden.
Niklas Arnberg believes the starting position is both better and worse than last spring.
– So the infection spread from one geographic location to the whole world in three months, now we have it everywhere at the same time.
The fact that we are facing autumn and winter is also a factor that puts us in a worse situation than when the infection arrived this spring. Inevitably, we are headed for a long period of time and conditions that are more favorable for the spread of the virus.
– We definitely have the climate against us, it is a very big challenge and now it becomes more important than ever that we help each other and each one of us assume our responsibility.

Niklas Arnberg was shocked by the news of the lifting of visiting restrictions in nursing homes.
– I don’t want to say that it was a wrong decision, but I was surprised. If the spread of infection increases again, as it appears to, a restraining order may need to be re-entered.
According to Niklas Arnberg, we can count on both cluster infections and the general spread of the infection.
Is there anything that puts us in a better position than this spring?
– We have many tools installed that give us a better location than last spring. This applies to the ability to test, track infections, better treat the sick, and better protect risk groups. It is also possible that we are a little better than other countries because we were very affected this spring.
