French singer and actress Juliette Gréco died at the age of 93, writes Le Figaro.

– His life was like no other, writes the family in a statement.

He began his career, which lasted more than 70 years, in the 1940s as a singer in the cafes of Paris in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés area, a popular meeting place for followers of existentialism. Juliette Gréco also became friends with people from the cultural life of Paris, such as the author and poet Boris Vian, Albert Camus, and the singer-songwriter Serge Gainsbourg.

During the 1950s and 1960s, Gréco also appeared in several French and international films, including “And the sun has its way” (1957), “A cloud in my sky” (1957) and “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” (1965).

In the years 1966-1977 she was married to the French actor Michel Piccoli.

Suffering from a stroke

In 2015, Gréco was on tour, but on March 24, 2016, he suffered a stroke in a hotel in Lyon and could no longer sing. That same year, he lost his only daughter, Laurence-Marie.

Gréco died at his home in Ramatuelle, in the presence of his family.

“Juliette had been tired for a long time, but she still had a sharp mind,” Alexandre Baud, who produced her last tour, told AFP.
