The German state of Bavaria is introducing new restrictions to stop the growing spread of the infection, reports Süddeutsche Zeitung.
In areas where many new cases of coronary heart disease are reported, the requirement to wear a mouth guard is extended, according to the state government decision. Rules on how many people can meet at the same time are also being tightened, and the sale and service of alcohol is being restricted. The responsibility for introducing stricter regulations rests with local authorities in districts where more than 50 new cases are registered per 100,000 inhabitants in a week.
Corresponding rules have already been introduced in various parts of the state. In Munich’s city of millions, as of Thursday, there are requirements for mouth protection in certain public places and stricter rules on social interaction: from now on, only five people can meet, alternately members of two households.
Compared to most other European countries, Germany has so far survived the pandemic with around 275,000 confirmed cases and more than 9,000 deaths per 83 million inhabitants. In recent weeks, however, the spread of the infection has increased, and Health Minister Jens Spahn warned Monday morning that worrying development in several neighboring countries could soon spread to Germany.
