On Friday, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson introduced several new measures to counter the spread of the infection in the country. But now, British government medical advisers Chris Whitty and Sir Patrick Vallance are warning that the measures are not enough and that the situation could soon get out of control, according to the BBC.
– Right now we believe that the epidemic is doubling approximately every seven days. If it continues, we will file something like 50,000 cases a day in mid-October, says Sir Patrick Vallance at a press conference and continues:
– 50,000 cases a day for a month are expected to cause more than 200 deaths a day.
“Facing a turning point”
Shortly after the experts’ press conference, news came that the UK was raising its level of readiness for the crown from three to four, which is the first change since June.
– The country is facing a tipping point in its response and it is important for everyone to do their part to stop the spread of the crown and protect lives, Health Minister Matt Hancock says in a statement according to the BBC.
