The United States government is imposing sanctions on the Iranian Defense Ministry and on individuals and authorities linked to the country’s nuclear and weapons program, Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo announced.
Sanctions are also being imposed on Iran’s nuclear energy body.
President Donald Trump also issued a presidential order that means countries that trade with Iran can expect sanctions from the United States.
The United States is using a UN resolution tied to the international nuclear energy deal with Tehran, which aims to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons in exchange for sanctions.
The United States has unilaterally abandoned the agreement, but at the same time affirms that the country is still part of it.
Since then, Iran has withdrawn from the United States several deviations from the restrictions on its nuclear program stipulated in the agreement, but claims that this is allowed in cases where another party fails to meet its obligations in the agreement.
