Lars-Åke Lagrell described himself as an association man and was involved from the beginning in youth activities and local football in Småland. Lagrell was born in Älmeboda, on the outskirts of Växjö, but when he was one year old his father died in a bus accident and the family moved to Jönköping, where he grew up.

Lars-Åke Lagrell has been interested in television deals since the 1980s and concluded a lucrative deal for the rights of Swedish international matches in the late 1990s.
In 2010, Lagrell announced that he intended to resign as president, and in 2012 he stepped down and Karl-Erik Nilsson, who is now the union president, took office.
“Swedish football has nothing to thank me for, I am indebted to Swedish football,” Lagrell said at the time.
Lars-Åke Lagrell dead, 80 years old
During his career, Lagrell was also Governor of Kronoberg County and a member of the National Sports Board.
On its website, the Swedish Football Association writes that Lagrell passed away, aged 80, after a long illness.
The Swedish soccer legend leaves behind his wife Yvonne and three children.
