This is what the first Riksbygg block in Masthuggskajen should look like

Work on the construction of Masthuggskajen, a new district between Järntorget, Långgatorna and the Stena terminal in Denmark, is in full swing. To date, the projects started consist of offices and hotels.

Masthuggskajen is one of the largest urban development projects underway in Gothenburg. The project will provide 1,300 homes, 6,000 jobs and an 18,000-square-meter man-made peninsula stretching 100 meters into the Göta River.

These include the construction of the new Draken Hotel, which is underway behind Folkets Hus, and Stena Fastigheter Stuveriet’s office building, behind Första Långgatan.

Now Riksbyggen, which will build the first houses in the new district, is beginning to take the first steps in the project. The real estate company recently organized an architectural competition and now a winner has been chosen to design the first Riksbygg block in Första Långgatan.

– We had several architects submit proposals and now we have chosen to go to Kanozi Architects who had the proposal that we thought was the best, says Mikael Ahlén, market area manager at Riksbyggen in Gothenburg.

Construction start 2022

Riksbyggen will now begin construction planning and further develop the design that Kanozi has developed together with the city planning office.

– We expect sales to start sometime during the first quarter of next year and construction to start in 2022, says Mikael Ahlén, market area manager at Riksbyggen in Gothenburg.

The first Riksbygg block will be located along Första Långgatan, where there is currently a parking platform, and will contain just over 130 apartments in a nine-story house. In total, the block has approximately 8,500 square meters of living space and approximately 2,050 square meters of living space.

Same theme as the long streets

At street level, the idea is that the new neighborhoods follow the same theme as other long streets. An approach in which all the companies that are part of the consortium that Masthuggskajen builds agree.

– This with the live street level, the whole project is agreed. We really want this crowd that exists in the area, with locals and businesses on the ground floor, to continue, says Mikael Ahlén and continues:

– We think about everything, from restaurants, second hand and not least in culture. It is very important that we get a mix between old and new that makes it all exciting.
