Kalmar FF defeated IFK Gothenburg 2-1 on Sunday. An own goal by Christian Kouakou from a corner kick a few minutes before half-time gave Kalmar the lead and in the second half Isak Magnusson extended it to 2-0. Pontus Wernbloom was cut in extra time, but Blåvitt didn’t get any closer than that.

Head coach Roland Nilsson was not satisfied afterwards.

– We had a setback in a corner and it cost us a lot. The players lowered their heads. Then it will be difficult. We talked for a while about how we would change. We made minor adjustments. So it was a mistake and we launched a counterattack where they had to finish too close to our goal. Suddenly it was 2-0 and we had to climb a whole mountain. The guys worked on it, but unfortunately we got the ball in with very little time left, says Nilsson.

He supported unfortunate own goal scorer Christian Kouakou, who was signed by IK Brage at the end of July.

– Soccer is a difficult game sometimes. A mistake can be very costly. I told Christian that such things unfortunately happen. You have to take it and keep working. There is no other way, says Roland Nilsson.

After the defeat, Christian Kouakou, who was replaced in the 63rd minute, was subdued and did not want to speak to the media. However, he also received support from his peers.

– We do not lose by his own goal. I’ve been there before. I do not blame him. Not that he wanted to score his own goal. I don’t want to burn penalties and I don’t do it on purpose. We are behind him. We lose as a team and we win as a team. We are eleven players on the field plus the substitutes who do everything together, says Tobias Sana and continues:

– I don’t want you to go home and think about anything. We are a team and we will solve it together. We have to do everything together. We cannot blame different players here and there.

Tobias Sana did not live up to expectations, and he was the worst on his team.

– We weren’t good enough, but we tried and we fought. It was a bit on the old track. They got an unfortunate goal and scored 2-0 in an illogical situation for us. We don’t create enough opportunities. In my head, it’s a crossover match to be honest, add chances, etc., says the midfielder.

He says they have a lot to work on next week.

– Now we can lay the groundwork. Then we will fight in every game. We are where we are now and we take one game at a time, says Sana.

IFK Gothenburg is two points behind relegation place.
