SHL’s first suspension is a fact.
Rögle’s Adam Edström, 19, is suspended for five games after yesterday’s main tackle against Linköping’s Jarno Kärki.
– Now we have to make sure we can do without Adam in five games. But perhaps most important of all, Kärki did not appear to be too affected by the tackle, says Rögle’s coach Cam Abbott.
It was in the first period of yesterday’s SHL premiere between Rögle and Linköping that the violent entry occurred.
– Edström enters as the third player and has no intention of winning the disc. We definitely want to eliminate that type of investment. Very good with match penalties and I expect a suspension from some matches, Sportbladet columnist Hans Abrahamsson said after the incident.
Four key factors
Kärki got up and was able to continue playing, but today it is clear that Adam Edström will be suspended for five games for the main tackle.
The Disciplinary Board lists four key factors in the incident:
► The rig spreads at high speed.
► The player tackling is the third man in the situation.
► The tackler reinforces the tackle with the left arm unnecessarily.
► High risk of injury.
Edström can also be fined SEK 6,756.
“The most important thing is that Kärki is fine”
When Sportbladet calls Rögle’s coach, Cam Abbott, he has yet to receive the verdict.
– Five games? Okay. I have no comment on the length or the input itself. But the league believes it is important to get dangerous tackles out of the game and it is an ongoing process to overcome it, it says and continues:
– Now we have to make sure we can do without Adam in five games. But perhaps most important of all, Kärki didn’t seem too affected by the entry.
Did you talk to Adam?
– Just a little short. But we keep the discussions between him and me, says Cam Abbott.
