Luleå, who won the basic series last year, hosted Färjestad at a summit on Saturday night.
And the home team got off to a good start.
Victor Berglund gave Luleå the lead early in the first period when it was clearly 1-0.
Then, with less than two minutes to go in the first 20, it was time again.
Niklas Olausson rose to 2-0, assisted by Nils Lundkvist and Erik Gustafsson.
– It’s good to get to the first goal, and now is the time to beat it. We do a good spin in your area. It’s nice, says Victor Berglund in C plus.
– I think it’s relatively even in terms of the game. We need to stay away from the ejection booth. Then we’ll lower the puck and create a slightly longer attack, says Johan Pennerborn.
Kronwall: “It shouldn’t be that simple”
In the second half, Luleå continued and the 3-0 came through Petter Emanuelsson, assisted by Victor Berglund and Isac Brännström.
Luleå went for 4-0, but Färjestad goalkeeper Arvid Holm played very well with a couple of sweaty saves. After the second half, the expert Staffan Kronwall was disappointed with the efforts of the visiting team.
– It shouldn’t be that simple, says Kronwall.
Färjestad reduced twice
In the third period, the game got hotter and smoother. For Färjestad it was reduced twice. First through Daniel Viksten and then through Martin Johansson. Then the visiting team pressed for an equalizer and then Johan Pennerborn chose the goalkeeper, with four minutes to go. But instead of 3-3, Luleå’s Karl Fabricius made it 4-2 at the empty net.
C More expert Staffan Kronwall questions Pennerborn’s decision.
– It was different. If he had been in the booth, he wouldn’t have, but he’s in the booth and he probably has a feeling he’s fine. At the same time, they were in a strong phase of the match. He had kept the goalkeeper for 1-1.5 minutes minimum, Kronwall says.
The Färjestad coach was asked in the C More studio after the match:
– This is something we have discussed internally. So it depends on the outcome, whether it’s 3-1 or 4-1 … says Pennerborn.
