Frölunda last season was in its infancy and finished seventh in the regular season. Now, a young and fresh fan crosses the team with Lucas Raymond at the helm. The 18-year-old finished off the scorer at Scandinavium with a delightful direct shot to the crossbar behind Jonas Gunnarsson in HV goal.
– It is always good to score goals. I want to get involved and produce offensively, he said when he passed the doping control after the premiere.
Raymond was one of seven players born in the 2000s, who took their place in the debut lineup. This is a clear difference from Frölunda, which last year had its worst basic series under Roger Rönnberg and finished seventh.
This year’s edition contains a better combination.
– I think we have come together much better as a team this year. It is extremely important for us young players to have a lot of older and experienced players on the team, Raymond said.
Linus Nässén, 20, who was behind the goal 2-0, agrees.
– We are young people who want to show what we can do and we have some older people who show us the way. It’s a good combination, said Nässén, who was happy that 18-year-old Daniel Torgersson was also able to come in and make some changes.
Frölunda impressed, but Nässén cautioned against making too big changes to the result.
– We made a great effort today, but this is just one match, he said.
Coach Roger Rönnberg agreed, but was almost lyrical about what he saw on the ice.
– I lay down and daydreaming about how we would carry out this match and I notice that I can verify all the points, said Rönnberg, who agreed that Frölunda this season has a better balance between old and young, well mixed in all five.
– These young people give us energy and life. They have a thirst for knowledge and the elderly can help them with the routine, Rönnberg said.
He was happy with Raymond’s goal, but seemed even more impressed by the effort of 19-year-old defender Karl Henriksson.
– And I wish you could see him training, said Rönnberg.
