Saturday’s attack took place just north of the Kronoberg border, between Visseltofta in Skåne and Hallaryd in Småland.
SVT Nyheter Småland claims that a sheep and a lamb had been killed.
The animals must have presented the typical wounds of wolves and were bitten on the neck and neck.
– I have been in the inspection and I can confirm that it is a wolf that has killed two sheep. It’s probably the same wolf that attacked Skåne last week, Tom Espgård at the Skåne county administrative board tells Kristianstadsbladet.
Sixth wolf attack
In that case, it is the sixth wolf attack of the same individual in just over a week.
Last weekend, three attacks on sheep were carried out between Osby and Visseltofta. On Monday, an attack on nine sheep was found in Arkelstorp and on Tuesday, a sheep was inspected in Näsum, which was also deemed to have been killed by a wolf.
On Wednesday, the Skåne county administrative board decided to expand the protective hunting area for the wolf that is apparently now moving into the northern parts of the county.
The hunting protection area extended south and east towards the border with Blekinge.
Risk of new attacks
– There is an obvious risk of further attacks. Our assessment is that it was the same person who carried out the five attacks in Skåne, said David Börjesson, then game director at the county administrative board in Skåne.
However, the decision on protective hunting does not apply in Kronoberg County. An independent decision must be made there.
DNA samples have been taken to determine whether it is the same wolf that has been attacked five times in a week in Skåne.
