Rochester police wrote on Twitter that an incident with multiple deaths on Pennsylvania Avenue is being investigated. The incident occurred early in the morning local time when someone opened fire on a party.
A large police force is in place and several streets have been blocked. No person has yet been arrested.
Local police confirm to the US media that 16 people have been shot. Two people were confirmed dead, a man and a woman between 18 and 22 years old, reports ABC affiliate channel 13 Wham.
Mark Simmons, the acting chief of police for the area, claims that the first witnesses claimed that there were “chaotic scenes” at the scene with several victims.
– It seems to be some kind of house party. Police were not aware of what was happening until they received the call from 112 that shots had been fired, he tells local media.
About a hundred people must have been present at the party.
Witnesses told Channel 13 Wham that the shooting sounded like “Vietnam War.”
The families of the dead and wounded had gathered near the scene and in local hospitals.
