Västtrafik controls with selfie stick

Ticket inspectors at Västtrafik have not checked tickets on board trams and buses during the pandemic.

But starting next week, the checks will be back. According to Mette Ramquist, press director of Västtrafik, trips have increased in Västtrafik, but prices have not been maintained.

Whether there are more people cheating or not, she can’t answer.

– It is not possible to say with certainty how big the deception is because we have not made controls. But there are signs, even in the way that travel has increased but revenue has not kept pace. At the same time, we know that most people do the right thing for themselves, says Mette Ramquist to GöteborgDirekt.

New Methods: Selfie Sticks

Ticket inspectors are also returning with an entirely new tool: Selfie stick. The inspectors will attach their readers to the stick and then review the tickets.

According to Västtrafik, all of this is done in collaboration with clients and infection control experts in the country.

– These are different ways of performing safe controls. These include how inspectors move at stops, how they move on board, and that inspections are carried out at a safe distance, Mette Ramquist tells Göteborg Direkt.

The number of inspectors deployed will gradually increase.

Initially, 80 inspectors will be deployed and will expand to about 100 during the fall.
