People with ties to organized crime have infiltrated the Swedish Public Employment Service to learn the business from within and use the welfare system, says unit chief Eva-Lena Edberg for Swedish Radio.

These include improper salary subsidies and purchased brokerage services, as support and compensation.

– Where you can make money, there is a risk of being exposed to organized crime, Edberg tells the radio.

In addition, employees have repeatedly acted as infiltrators of criminal networks who engage in violations of the welfare system, according to Edberg.

He does not want to delve into the scope of this infiltration, but claims that criminal arrangements have become more and more organized and advanced.

The Swedish Public Employment Service does not want to comment on whether police reports have been made.

– We will not comment more than what we told the radio. There is a secret around government cooperation, press secretary Hans G Larsson tells TT.
