Social media in Greece is flooded with images of children and adults wearing giant face masks that cover the entire face well, not just the mouth and nose.
They seem rather sized for the mule on horseback.
The event is, of course, an open target for online pranksters. Some suggest that masks can protect the whole family; others, which can be used as candles or hammocks.

The bottom is what appears to be an unforgivable mistake by the Greek equivalent of the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare, which commissioned the masks from a private company.
About 1.5 million masks out of a total of 6.2 million that had been ordered were distributed in schools in Greece on Monday. Of these, about a third are reported to have been the giant size you’re laughing at.
The responsible authority writes in a press release that the wording of the order contract was unclear, “causing several of the masks distributed to be larger than appropriate.”
Yes, nobody has missed it. But how did it happen ?, the Greek public asks.

Different data are circulating, among other things, that “a spelling mistake” in the contract would have caused the error. Another version states that the requested dimensions referred to the size of the raw material itself before cutting and sewing it.
Be that as it may, the deal has become embarrassing for the Greek Conservative government. The opposition party Kinal says the government wanted to open schools at all costs despite the fact that classrooms are overcrowded and therefore the masks were brought forward too quickly.
“This one with giant masks for kids is an insurmountable failure. It is outrageous that those responsible are allowed to stay. “

Government spokesman Stelios Petsas acknowledges that mistakes have been made and says that “responsibility is collective.” But Minister Adonis Georgiadis blames the opposition Syriza party, which for some time has demanded that the masks be distributed free of charge.
– The state decided to give in to Syriza and then everything happened very quickly. And when something is done too quickly, it easily becomes a mistake.
The mask contract is now broken. But the online comments continue.
“Parents: make sure you pick up the right child,” writes one user on Twitter.
