The infection is increasing throughout Denmark, and now the government is deciding once again on stricter restrictions.

Restaurants and bars are due to close by 10 pm and a new ban on public gatherings will be introduced.

– The infection has taken hold of Danish society, says Prime Minister Mette Fredriksen.

At a press conference on Friday, Danish Prime Minister Mette Fredriksen and Health Minister Magnus Heunicke announced the bad news: the spread of the infection in the country is not under control.

– We are at too high a level. At the same time, we see that the infection is spreading throughout the country and in various groups of the population. Among other things, among health personnel. It’s serious to say the least, Prime Minister Fredriksen said.

“It remains a serious risk of disease”

The number of hospital admissions is also increasing, something for which Kåre Mølbak of the Statens Serum Institut expressed concern.

“We are seeing an increasing number of hospitalizations, and this shows that the virus still poses a risk of serious illness,” he said.

All age groups are represented among the new corona cases. But 14 percent of those now hospitalized are under 30 years old.

During the press conference, the government presented several new restrictions and recommendations for the Danes:

  • The bars, restaurants and cafes can only be open until 22:00.

  • Public gatherings of more than 50 people are prohibited. Some exceptions are made for seated arrangements.

  • People are also encouraged to work from home where possible.

You want to avoid a new closure

Restrictions apply until October 4. The Prime Minister urged the Danes to use their common sense when deciding how to act in everyday life.

– There will be questions: how many friends will the children take home after school? Therefore, it is good advice for everyone to follow their common sense.

– Now it’s about limiting social interaction with other people.

With the new measures, the Danish government hopes to slow the spread of the infection without closing the country again.

– Schools remain open, workplaces continue to function. But there will be limitations. We try to find a balance so that as much as possible it can remain open, while slowing down the infection.
