Many Israeli citizens looked forward to celebrating Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, over the weekend. But just in time for the celebration, the country reintroduced new restrictions and curfews. This means that Israel will be the first country in the world to close twice, during the pandemic.
Recently, Israel has had the highest crown figures in the world. As of Friday, there are 177,000 confirmed cases and nearly 1,200 deaths with Cvoid-19. In recent days, the cargo has had about 5,000 new cases a day, according to the British news site.
According to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the move is necessary after health authorities warned of increasing declines in the crown.
The new rules are comprehensive and will apply across the country for at least three weeks. As of Friday, Israelis cannot be more than a kilometer from their homes. You cannot gather more than ten people inside. All schools and shopping centers will also be closed.
The new rules were met with fierce opposition and protests, local media report.
The closure will not only affect the Jewish New Year, but will also take place during the family celebrations of Yom Kippur and Sukkot. Benjamin Netanyahu says he is aware that the closure will affect the celebration of Jewish holidays.
– This is not the type of celebration we are used to. And we can’t really celebrate with our extended families, he said.
