During the spring, the number of electric scooters soared in Stockholm. According to the traffic administration, around 12,000 electric scooters roll on the streets of Stockholm. As they have become more numerous, accessibility has deteriorated and litter has increased. Therefore, parking guards will now begin to move carelessly parked electric scooters, explains Traffic Councilor Daniel Helldén (MP).
– We are testing a team space that is used to move incorrectly parked cars for a shorter distance, says Daniel Helldén (MP), who has political responsibility for the issue at Stockholm City Hall.
Trial period to start
On Monday, about 200 of the city’s parking guards will begin to find out about improperly parked electric scooters.
– We start with a trial period of two to three weeks. Then we will evaluate and trim the system. This also needs to be resolved in the traffic committee and city council before we can start charging the electric power companies. It is estimated to be around SEK 300 per electric scooter, says Daniel Helldén (MP).
“Electric scooters are heavy to move”
Petra and Annika are parking guards in Östermalm and now they will start to walk away from carelessly parked electric scooters.
– It is not the case that we should look for electric scooters that are badly parked. But if we see that they get in the way, we take care of the problem. There will be one more thing that will be part of all the work, says Petra.
– Parked electric scooters are heavy to move. I will not accept to choose thirty or forty a day. But a couple of pieces a day work, Annika says.
