The boy had not made the film himself. He found it online in December of last year and decided to share it with a friend.
But the moment she shared the movie, she signed up as a child pornography suspect and got stuck in the company’s own Snapchat filter.
Snapchat, like Facebook, Google, and other internet giants, searches all posted photos and videos with advanced algorithms and search features.
Information for the USA
When the tracker finds material that appears to show abuse, that information is relayed to NCMEC, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, in the United States.
NCMEC contacted the Swedish police about the film that Malmöpojken posted on Snapchat. Among other things, the police received the IP address of the 16-year-old and were able to find him easily.
According to prosecutor Johanna Liljeblad, the current film shows “particularly vicious abuse material.”
The lawyer for the 16-year-old, Jac Jorge Andrés Concha Novoa, does not want to say whether his client admits or denies the crime.
It considers that the criminal classification of child pornography offenses is “highly stigmatizing”.
“He is not a pedophile”
– This is not a pedophile. He’s a young man, he’s silly, says Jac Jorge Andrés Concha Novoa.
– This can be a lesson for today’s youth. You are not alone in the cyber world, they control you all the time.
According to the lawyer, a simple mistake can cause the network monitors to act.
– It may be enough that a pop-up window appears and you press “yes” instead of “no” and you have entered a page where you did not want to end.
– Then it’s registered. And that is cause for concern.
Another case last week
Last week, a 25-year-old Malmö resident was sentenced to three years in prison for raping a child thanks to evidence from the same American organization.
NCMEC found his movies online and sent all the information about accounts, IP numbers and other things necessary to identify the 25-year-old to the Malmö police.
Police searched the man’s home in mid-June and then found the previously unknown film with the seven-year-old on her mobile. He has been in custody ever since.
