In tonight’s episode of “Skavlan,” Mona Sahlin talks about the journey after the bodyguard scandal and how it changed her life.

– If we had an audience here, I would have asked them: How many people here think I have a lover? So I think 80 percent answered yes, says Mona Sahlin.

It was in 2016 when it was discovered that Mona Sahlin declared that her previous bodyguard earned 120,000 crowns a month. In fact, he later earned 43,000 SEK a month for his work for Mona Sahlin, in her then role as national coordinator against violent extremism.

The reason why leader S wrote the false income certificate was because the bodyguard could afford to buy a house in Saltsjöbaden.

Mona Sahlin and her bodyguard pleaded guilty and were fined. She was forced to resign. It was also widely speculated whether the two had had an affair.

Since Mona Sahlin’s resignation, she has withdrawn from the public eye.

She is a guest on Thursday’s episode of “Skavlan,” which airs on SVT1 at 9:00 PM. Aftonbladet has been able to view short television clips of the interview.

Fredrik Skavlan wonders, among other things, if Mona Sahlin can understand the question she has often been asked about how someone can go as far as she did for her bodyguard.

– I can understand many questions, but why does the question arise? What would a love affair with my bodyguard have? He is happily married, I married him, I am happily married to Bosse for 40 years. Why does a woman in politics suddenly get the rumor that she has a lover?

– If we had an audience here, I would have asked them: How many people here think I have a lover? So I think 80 percent answered yes. And it hurts, says Mona Sahlin.

“The depression is still felt”

She believes that the rumor still affects her today and that it has changed her life.

– It was a depression. You wake up in the morning, you don’t remember what you did yesterday, you don’t know what to do tomorrow. To get out of bed, you must first tell your right leg to get up and stand up. Nothing in the body worked.

Mona Sahlin says her self-tormented thoughts made her question her entire existence.

– Thoughts about how horrible you are and what you have contributed to. I guess it’s the depression that I felt and still feel. I think you’re looking at me too, that I should think about speaking clearly.
