Next year, it will be significantly cheaper for people over 70 to take the bus in Uppsala.

The price of cards for seniors is reduced by more than half, but this does not apply throughout the day.

After the turn of the year, 30-day cards for seniors will cost SEK 150 instead of SEK 460 that they cost today. This was decided by the city council in Uppsala on Wednesday.

– We are making this unique investment in cheaper public transport to increase the opportunity for older people to participate in various activities and social contexts regardless of the thickness of the wallet, says the chairman of the municipal board, Erik Pelling (S), in a Press release.

Does not apply during peak traffic hours

Cards for seniors will be valid on weekends and at special times on weekdays. Older people will not be able to travel with the card between 06:00 and 09:00 or between 15:00 and 19:00 as many come and go from work or school.

The investment costs around SEK 13 million.
