Dumped eggs found at a bus stop on the outskirts of Enköping

When Thomas Gustavsson passed the old E18 west of Hummelsta on Monday night, he saw something that caught his eye. At a bus stop near his home, remnants of egg cartons lay on the lawn.

– He’s completely sick. I myself am a cultivator and I was horrified that someone did this. There were probably thousands of eggs, I didn’t want to get too close and count exactly how many there were, he says.

Spanish labels

Why the eggs ended up there is a mystery, but it says in Spanish on the labels and there is an address of a Spanish company.

Kjell Engvall is a landowner and he’s just as perplexed as his neighbor, he saw the eggs until 7:30 am on Tuesday, but an hour later they were gone except for some eggs thrown into the ditch.

– I thought the name of the Lord is for something. Strange story, says Kjell Engvall.

They have contacted the police about the dumped eggs and made a police report of dumping between 10,000 and 15,000 eggs.

– If it is a systematic sharpening, it is worrying and serious and it is illegal to litter. But I have no information on whether we will proceed with this, says Jonas Eronen, press spokesman for the Mitt police region.

Eggs dumped also in Sörmland

In Sörmland, similar incidents have occurred in the past week: individuals have found dumped eggs in at least two places. The Eskilstuna Municipality’s Environment Office has recently banned several stores from selling Spanish eggs that did not have a certificate on whether or not they had been tested for salmonella. But if the spilled eggs have a connection to this, it is not possible to establish it yet, neither in Eskilstuna nor in Enköping.

At lunchtime Tuesday, another report came in about thousands of eggs dumped from Spain on County Road 696 in Västmanland County.

– What can be said is that it is handled with extreme frivolity, says Jonas Eronen.
