Hundreds of thousands of people have been forced to flee the fires in the United States.
Sweden’s Anna Björnsdotter and her family are among those who have been forced to leave their homes. Now Anna’s mother has started a fundraiser to help her daughter.
– Who would have thought so many want to help us. It’s fantastic, says Anna.
The entire west coast of the United States is on fire. More than 20 people have died, dozens have been injured and hundreds of thousands have been evacuated. This week, Anna Björnsdotter, 46, of Sweden and her family were forced to leave their home on the McKenzie River in Eugene, Oregon.
– My friend called me and told me that they had to evacuate. While I was talking to her, a tree fell on our house, says Anna and continues:
Fifteen minutes later we received a message that we had to leave our house.

The family quickly packed essentials and headed to their car. Large trees blocked the road and the entire neighborhood helped to get rid of them.
– My husband is an artist and all his paintings are gone, all my son’s toys. Everything we’ve created is gone, Anna says, but adds:
– It’s a miracle that we survived.

The place where Anna’s studio was located, a few kilometers from the family home, is completely destroyed.

Anna works as a clothing designer and her studio also caught fire in connection with the violent fires. Now she, her husband José and their six-year-old son Viggo live with friends in downtown Eugene.
– We have friends who love us and take care of us. It means a lot, many have nowhere to turn, says Anna and talks about all the aid organizations that establish temporary housing.
When Anna’s mother, Ann-Britt Nilsson, 72, found out what had happened to her daughter, she decided to start a fundraiser.
– I thought: they have lost everything. Maybe someone can help, says Ann-Britt.
He shared the collection on his Facebook and in a few days it had reached almost one hundred thousand crowns.
– I was surprised and happy! It’s good that so many people want to help, says Ann-britt and Anna agrees:
– It is fantastic that we have received so much support, that so many people love us and care about us. We need to feel that we are not alone in this.
