– Privet, eto Navalnyj. Hi, I’m Navalny.
Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny always launches his YouTube show in the same way. Now he repeats his intro from his hospital bed, in an Instagram message written in his usual careless tone.
– I still don’t know almost anything, but yesterday I was able to breathe myself all day. All on my own. A fantastic process that many do not understand to appreciate. Recommended, writes Navalny.
In the picture, he is flanked by his wife Julia Navalnaja. As Navalny moved between life and death in the Omsk hospital, he struggled for more than a day to obtain permission to fly him for treatment in Berlin.
Now we know In other words, Navalny doesn’t just survive. It also appears to be her old self. The post is written in her typical style, and information was leaked from the hospital to the New York Times that Navalny has no intention of staying in Germany.
– He wants to go home to Russia as soon as possible and continue his mission there, says an anonymous German official who has interviewed the New York Times.
Bottom line: Navalny is back. This is bad news for the Kremlin.
Partly because Navalny is by far the most famous and popular opposition leader in Russia. Partly because it has now received a moral upheaval that makes it an even bigger problem for the Putin regime. He was poisoned with a chemical weapon that only the Russian security service has access to, and not only did he survive, but he also shows the Kremlin his middle finger by writing an update that is a total renouncement of terror and submission.
Hela EU, led by heavyweight Angela Merkel, is now behind Navalny. She has become an international celebrity. Not another in the line of Russian opposition figures dying in mysterious ways. Nor is he interested in a comfortable life in exile in Germany.
The Russian government refuses to acknowledge any responsibility for the attack on Navalny, but the consequences will be felt in any case. It is not just the EU and the US that will guarantee this. The Kremlin itself has given Navalny a new weapon in his fight for power.
