Lewis Hamilton was wearing a Black Lives Matter T-shirt when he won this weekend’s race at Mugello.
The star is now being investigated, as political messages are not allowed in Formula 1.
– It took me a long time to get the jersey and I really wanted to wear it, says Hamilton after the race.
“Arrest the police who killed Breonna Taylor,” it read on Hamilton’s black jersey during Sunday’s race. On the back was a photo of Breonna Taylor with the text “Say your name.”
– Many believe that it only occurs in the states. Yes, there is police brutality in America, but systematic racism exists all over the world, says Hamilton of the shirt, according to TMZ.
All of this is seen as potentially breaking the rules in Formula 1. Political messages are not allowed in the sport and Hamilton is now being investigated by the International Automobile Federation (FIA).

Strong criticism
This year the union has a campaign against racism that Hamilton is a part of. In a video, which is played before each competition, he says that “he will not be silent.”
Tom Bellingham, founder of WTF1, comments on the incident.
– So they put a video where he says that he says he will not remain silent, and then they investigate him because he does precisely that? writes Bellingham.
The investigation has received strong criticism on Twitter. The #IStandWithLewisHamilton hashtag spreads where people are behind it.
Run by the police
Breonna Taylor was shot and killed by police at her home in March this year. Black Lives Matter has drawn attention to the event and several different sports icons have previously helped spread the word. Among other things, Naomi Osaka had a mouth guard with her name on it during the US Open.
