Despite a massive investigation involving thousands of cases, it was only this year that the police revealed Daniel Nyqvist, 37, as the man behind the double murder in Linköping in 2004. This after a successful collaboration with genealogist Peter Sjölund .
Nyqvist’s DNA matches that at the crime scene and he confessed immediately when the police arrested him.
When the indictment was recently filed, the preliminary investigation was made public. Among other things, it emerged that Nyqvist felt compelled to murder to ease his anxiety and that he chose victims at random.
Healed in front of the Swedish flag
At the same time, there is information that Daniel Nyqvist, prior to the murders, underwent a transformation in the direction of the extreme right, and used to stand and heal in front of the Swedish flag every morning.
The trial begins Tuesday morning at Linköping District Court. Expressen reports directly from inside the courtroom during the day.
On Tuesday, the prosecutor will present his case and the relatives of the murder victims will probably also be questioned.
On Wednesday, the trial continues with an interrogation of Daniel Nyqvist.
