Chelsea visited Brighton in the clubs’ Premier League season opener of the season. Big bet Chelsea without new acquisitions Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva could still win the match.

In the starting eleven, however, there are two other new acquisitions, the record-breaking acquisition of Kai Havertz and his compatriot Timo Werner. In the first half, Graham Potter was certainly satisfied with his team’s play. Brighton played well for much of the half, and the mistake leading to the penalty was one of the few mistakes Brighton made.

Chelsea, with many injured players, had to chase a lot during the first half with Timo Werner in the lead, but it would be 23 minutes before the lead goal came. Timo Werner was released and kidnapped by Brighton goalkeeper Mathew Ryan, resulting in a penalty. A penalty that Jorginho undoubtedly put down the left in the goal.

Brighton’s Steven Alzate had a great chance to score on a counterattack back in the 35th minute, but Kepa Arrizabalaga’s shot from the left missed over the bar. The 1-0 was at the break.

The second half began with Brighton’s dominance, and after just over 54 minutes came the draw. Leandro Trossard scored 1-1.

But a few minutes later came Chelsea’s 2-1 goal. Reece James unleashed an incredible shot from outside the area, scoring his first Premier League goal.

In the 66th minute, Chelsea would extend the lead. Striker Reece James hit a corner kick that Kurt Zouma was able to put there, after a control on the Brighton defender and the 3-1 was a done deal.

The rest of the game did not offer many scoring opportunities and Chelsea were able to hold out and win safely with 3-1 away from Brighton.

– We knew it would be difficult to come here and we knew we had to give everything to get the three points, which we also did. We had to speed up, says Chelsea promising Reece James to Sky Sports.
