Chelsea won – after Reece James’ dream goal against Brighton

Chelsea have made two major signings ahead of the season: Leipzig’s Timo Werner and Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz, the latter becoming the most expensive German player of all time.

Both stars were present from the beginning when Chelsea faced Graham Potter’s Brighton in the Premier League premiere. And Werner was caught up in the situation that led the London team to take the lead.

With 21 minutes played, the Brighton midfielder lost control of the ball and forced goalkeeper Mathew Ryan to knock down Timo Werner, who ran for a scoring chance in the penalty area, and the referee awarded a penalty. Jorginho got close to the penalty spot, and he certainly put the penalty low to Ryan’s left.

Reece James with dream goal for Chelsea

Brighton tied early in the second half. Leandro Trossard received the ball just outside the penalty area, identified a gap and sent the ball into goal.

But just a minute later, Chelsea had regained the advantage. Reece James scored the first goal of his career in the Premier League, when he landed a super hit that looked over the crossbar.

– He gets the hit of a lifetime, says commentator Robert Tennisberg on Viaplay.

In the 66th minute, Kurt Zouma extended it 3-1 for Chelsea. Zouma pushed forward a corner post that was awkwardly butted into the goal through Brighton defender Adam Webster.

The match ended 3-1.
