Prestigious acquisitions Kai Havertz and Timo Werner began with Chelsea.

But it was Reece James’s own product that decided against Brighton with a dream goal.

– When you bring in high-level players, the competition increases and everyone works harder to fill a place, James tells Sky Sports.

In fact, it wasn’t just a more beautiful goal. It was also Reece James’ first goal in the Premier League.

The 20-year-old took the ball a few meters from the penalty area, received it and put it in the first center, completely unattainable for the goalkeeper.

– Fantastic goal. Great first touch, you see immediately when he leaves the foot that should be up on the cross. Ojojoj, what a conclusion, says Jonas Olsson of Viaplay.

Werner fixed the penalty

The goal was 2-1 and came minutes after Brighton tied.

Before that, one of Chelsea’s new and expensive acquisitions, Timo Werner, had been introduced. The German striker joined last summer and was said to cost around SEK 560 million.

Werner fixed a penalty in the 23rd minute after the Brighton defense neglected. The penalty led Jorginho safely to 1-0.

New damaged acquisition

Chelsea won 3-1 after Kurt Zouma marked the final score.

“We knew it would be difficult to come here and we knew we had to do everything we could to get the three points and we did it,” Reece James tells Sky Sports.

For Graham Potter and Brighton, there was more salt in the wounds late in the first half when Adam Lallana, Liverpool’s newest acquisition, was injured.
