That’s why Apple didn’t put their hands on Arm

Earlier today, news came that Nvidia has acquired the British chip company Arm from Japan’s Softbank for the equivalent of 350 billion Swedish crowns.

Given that Apple uses Arm-based processors in several of its products (including Iphone and Ipad), many had thought that the American electronics giant would get its hands on Arm, but this did not happen.

According to experts, it would have been difficult for Apple to push through the Arm acquisition, as the competition authorities would likely have had objections to the deal. For example, Apple may have stopped licensing Arm technology to other manufacturers of computers, tablets, and mobile phones.

In all likelihood, Nvidia will stick with previously signed agreements, so we can definitely count on Arm-based processors in future Iphone and Ipad models as well. Possibly, the deal could result in Apple buying more components from Nvidia in the long run, as this may be the case with favorable package prices.
