Ebba Busch and Ulf Kristersson visiting Angered and Gothenburg

On Monday morning, the leaders of the Christian and Moderate Democratic Party, Ebba Busch and Ulf Kristersson, were in Angered for a study visit to the police and to observe the area.

– I thought it meant a lot to speak directly with the neighbors who were affected in the area and listen to what they raised and go around with the police who work in the area, says Ebba Busch.

– We want to see with our own eyes what is happening and how the police assess the situation. Beneath the surface, there is no calm, says Ulf Kristersson.

The two have long leveled harsh criticism of the political leadership in Sweden and want to see stricter and new laws to counter gang crime.

Ebba Busch: “We have to follow that”

Gothenburg has been hard hit for many years by various violent crimes related to various gang conflicts in the city. The Ali Khan family-based crime ring, which operates primarily in Angered, has recently received attention as part of a fast-breaking conflict with the Backa gang.

– The police must have much better resources to be on the criminals all the time. Don’t make a special effort in one area for a year and then lose touch in other areas. There he can take inspiration from the Danish Minister of Justice who said that criminals should know that they are being watched. We must emphasize them before, during and after the crime. We need to do the same in Sweden, says Ebba Busch.

Leader M, Ulf Kristersson, believes that since family or clan-based networks operate in a way that was not previously known, new methods are also needed in order to convict them.

– It is rude, rude violence in combination with a culture of silence and extreme loyalty. It is a crime we are not so used to in Sweden. It is incredibly dangerous because it erodes the confidence that justice is achieved and that you administer it yourself.

Ulf Kristersson: “We need to break the culture of silence”

– I read the book “The Family” earlier this summer and got a pretty detailed picture of how it works. But I think we have to realize that it is a very different crime from the one we usually fight. Then the methods must also be adapted for this. We need to break the culture of silence, we need anonymous witnesses and being able to have secret wiretaps is extremely important in order to obtain evidence.

How do you think an anonymous witness presentation should go? Lawyers must be able to hear witnesses.

– You can look at other countries, they have not presented anonymous witnesses without reflection. It is supporting evidence, not charges or convictions based solely on anonymous witnesses. It is strengthening crime.

He wants to strengthen Social Services

The leader of the Christian Democracy party also believes that it is necessary to strengthen Social Services and wants to see that it is possible to care for children where crime “runs the risk of being inherited.”

Busch also wants to see the police have greater authority to seize valuables in order to reduce recruitment into criminal gangs.

– We also want to give the police the opportunity to strip offenders from gangs with status symbols like watches, cars, clothing and cash, which are used to recruit 16-17 year olds into criminal gangs, says Ebba Busch .
