Polarbröd’s own investigation into the Älvsbyn fire was completed

On 23 August the Polarbröd bakery in Älvsbyn caught fire. The company has now conducted an internal investigation to see what caused the fire and to find areas for improvement in its ongoing work. The company believes that the investigation is important to prevent something similar from happening again in its own business or someone else’s. They are written in one Press release.

You caught fire in the oven

The investigation shows that the fire broke out in the track of the swallows, a 50-meter-long tunnel where bread is cooled after baking. Ventilation in the cooling track caused the fire to accelerate and advance rapidly. The construction of the Svalbanan made its extinction impossible. The reason for the fire itself is probably that the mass has caught fire in the oven and has been transported to the cooling track.

– The most important thing about our entire tragic event was that no one was injured. The staff who were on site act in an exemplary manner. The evacuation went completely according to plan and there is nothing to complain about, says the group’s president, Karin Bodin, in the same announcement.

Fire protection met requirements

Polarbröd claims that they feature systematic fire protection work, a fully automatic fire alarm and fire protection that met all requirements. They also write that these systems have been periodically reviewed and that all staff receive ongoing training.

Employees at the bakery site reacted two minutes faster than the automatic fire alarm, thereby saving emergency time.

Review other activities

Polarbröd will now review the operations in Bredbyn and the experience will be brought to the new bakery to be built in Älvsbyn at the same location as soon as possible.

Länsförsäkringar Norrbotten is now conducting a fire investigation and an insurance investigation. These investigations are independent of each other.
