Suddenly, something new was on the lonely country road outside Eskilstuna where Niklas Lindqvist goes to work every day.

During the night until Friday, someone had thrown thousands of eggs there.

– What do I think of those who did? Idiots, to put it bluntly, says Niklas.

Niklas Lindqvist, 42, lives about 100 meters from where the eggs were dumped. Every day he travels the same way to and from work.

– It is an old road, in the middle of the field. Only those who live in the area usually go there, he says.

When on Friday morning there were boxes along the road in the small community of Slytabacken on the outskirts of Eskilstuna, Niklas thought it was rubbish from deforestation in the area, boxes in which there could have been pine and fir trees in the past.

– But when I came home in the afternoon, I stopped and saw that they were eggs.

In a local Facebook group, someone from another rural community on the outskirts of Eskilstuna, Ärla, had made the same discovery. Thousands of eggs, thrown into the wild. Together, the residents have tried to discover what is behind the eggs.

Omelette for the whole area

– It feels really strange, it seems that they are the same people who threw Ärla too, says Niklas.

According to the boxes, the eggs come from Spanish caged hens and have passed their expiration date. Caring for the eggs was not relevant to Niklas, who also has his own chickens that meet the family’s egg needs.

– We joked about picking up some eggs and making a huge omelette for the whole area, but no, you don’t dare eat that. We do not know what may be in the eggs. Also, most have broken and run into the creek.

The municipality’s environment office was informed, but did not have time to draw up an action plan until the weekend began. Therefore, the eggs have remained, in boxes that have been increasingly destroyed by the rain. A police report has been made for the two environmental crimes.

– What do I think of those who have abandoned them? Idiots, to put it bluntly, says Niklas.
