A loud explosion echoed over southern Stockholm on Saturday night.

The loud noise worried many residents in the area, but the explosion was completely planned.

Overnight until Sunday, a planned blasting of the motorway bridge over the E4 took place at the Lindvreten junction in southern Stockholm.

The explosion that emitted a loud bang roared over the area of Vårby allé, Skärholmsvägen and Kungens kurvaleden.

The blowing up of the bridge was planned, but the information did not reach many nearby residents.

The blowing up of the bridge was planned, but the information did not reach many nearby residents.

In a video that 37-year-old freelance photographer Tommy Jacobsson shot from the scene, you can hear the blast and see the bridge suddenly rise in a huge cloud of smoke.

Residents were concerned

During the night, Aftonbladet and SOS Alarm received several calls from troubled residents in the area wondering where the sound was coming from. But the blast so heard came from work planned under the auspices of the Swedish Transport Administration.

– Information had come out early about closures across the site. We collaborated with the Swedish Transport Administration and went out on app 112 at 11:54 p.m. and announced the planned explosion, says Terje Almgren, press spokesperson for SOS Alarm.

The demolition of the bridge has to do with the construction of the Stockholm Bypass. The highway bridge, which has now been blown up, will be replaced by a new, larger roundabout with new exits and entrances.

– We are rebuilding to improve traffic flow in the traffic area when the Stockholm E4 Bypass is completed, writes the Swedish Transport Administration on its website.

From now on, it will not be possible to drive between Vårby and Kungens kurva during the construction period, which is expected to last until 2023. Those affected by the traffic disruption are now referred to the Lindvreten Norra traffic junction.
