Measures to prevent the coronavirus from taking hold in refugee camps in Jordan are intensifying, according to the UNHCR national representative.

The Jordanian authorities are conducting thousands of tests, opportunities to enter and leave the camps have been limited, and medical personnel are being trained.

– The development of the situation this week, of course, has been worrying for everyone, but especially for the refugees living in the camps. Overcrowding and cramped living conditions make it difficult to keep your distance, says Dominik Bartsch.

Three corona cases have been discovered in Jordan’s largest camp, Zaatari, and two cases in the smaller Azraq camp. A total of 120,000 refugees live in the two camps.

Those who tested positive were sent to an isolation center at the Dead Sea, while their families were quarantined inside the camps.
