Yesterday Jesper Karlsson went to the Netherlands and signed for AZ.
A great day for him.
– Actually, I couldn’t have imagined a better day than yesterday, he tells Fotbollskanalen.
It has been an eventful day for Jesper Karlsson. Last Friday he went to Holland and signed for AZ and visited his new teammates.
On Saturday he played a match against Djurgården at the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm.
– It has been a lot. It was fun. It is important to me and my family. But it was only to change today. So it’s been weird but a lot of fun, he says.
What do you mean big for your family?
– They have always been there and supported. My mother and my brother. And then my girlfriend and everyone. It is at least that big for my family who was there yesterday too. Actually, I couldn’t have imagined a better day than yesterday.
Tell us about yesterday?
– Yesterday the clubs agreed. So at 05 it was just to get up and go there. Then it was a medical examination, meeting the team, the coaches, the sports director and everyone. Then I signed up. So yesterday I came home late.
Why do you choose AZ?
– I know the club has met me before. As soon as I heard AZ, it felt good on my stomach. Actually, it was not a difficult choice. I have always had in mind that I want to play in the Netherlands because I like the way they play football. Very offensive and a bit the style of play that I have. So that was obvious.
– We’ll see how it looks, but intuition says it’s a good intermediate step. You want even more and I think it can be a good step.
When did AZ become the main track?
– About a month and a half ago. There was a concrete interest from many. From many interesting countries.
What do you think the agreement means for the club (it is said to be 27 million crowns)?
– I’ve been here a long time. My heart beats for Elfsborg. So it’s fun for Elfsborg to get money. Then there’s the crown you need to think about as well, which can make it sag a bit. I’m still happy
What is it like to play here when you have signed up there? Are you not afraid of injuring yourself?
– Well, before signing, I must be honest with the U21 match we had against Italy, then there were many thoughts. But today, I’m hardly in the field, I don’t think so. It’s just driving. And then I want Elfsborg to be at the top and continue at the top and as long as I stay I want us to win games.
When are you leaving Elfsborg?
– As they say, as if AZ won the Champions League tie, I will go down after Mjällby’s match which is on September 17th, and if you don’t advance, I will stop after IFK Gothenburg at home on September 27th.
How will Elfsborg manage without you?
– I think it will work out.
What then will the new salary be?
– Haha, I’m not saying that.
Will it be a new car?
– Haha, yes it will. I don’t want to talk about it but I’m very happy.
