On June 15, Reza Hoseini, 20, was stabbed to death in a bus stopped with passengers in Kiruna. A 47-year-old man and his 15-year-old son were arrested on the spot. The man’s 17-year-old son was arrested about two hours later. Witnesses told police that Reza Hoseini ran to the bus and was chased by three men.

DN has previously been able to say that behind the knife attack there was a long-standing conflict with various police reports that Reza Hoseini and the suspects have made with each other.

Now the prosecutor says Lindha Strömberg who has decided to investigate the incident as an honor crime. She believes that the family grew up in a context where honor is important.

– They themselves have talked a lot about honor in their interrogations – that it is important to them and that there are certain expectations based on what the eldest son should do and so on, he says and adds:

– I also think that the fact that the father brings his two children in this event shows that it is not a personal conflict between him and Reza. But this is something that worries his entire family.

On Friday, the children were taken into custody and the father also remains in detention.

Neither the defenders of the father nor those of the 15-year-old believe that the incident can be considered an honor crime. They think it is an emergency situation.

– Just the acute situation when the deadly violence was distributed, an argument arose where my client had to defend himself and his family. It’s not a related act of revenge at all and it’s not about someone’s honor being violated, says Jonas Westerlund.

The prosecutor says the family grew up in a context where honor is important. She is right

– My client grew up in Sweden. She does not think that the honor system that exists in the country of origin should be applied in Sweden. He has been very clear about it, says Jonas Westerlund.

The prosecutor also says that it was the father who shot with his children in the incident. What do you say about that?

– That’s not my client’s opinion. And there was nothing planned either.

On the same day of the stabbing on the bus, the father was charged with unlawful threats against a man other than Reza Hoseini. According to the indictment, the father threatened the man because he thought the man loved the father’s wife.

– I see this as one more indication that it was Reza who was exposed. And that this father has a hard time getting his wife to meet or date other men.

The father is also accused of sexual harassment against two children under the age of 15.

Who do you think is most responsible for this incident?

– I think it is above all the father who is responsible. But it is based on the fact that she is an adult and has the responsibility for her children, says Lindha Strömberg and continues:

– But my opinion is that he is the one who has influenced the children from this culture of honor.
