On Thursday, police patrolled areas in Copenhagen where a residence ban was introduced. Tactics to reduce the spread of Covid-19 appeared to appeal to the Danes.

– I think it’s a good measure. Okay, Julia says after she herself was rejected from a bank.

Starting at 6pm on Thursday, it is forbidden to stay in various places in Copenhagen. You can walk, jog, or bike in the area, but not stand or sit on a park bench. The ban is an attempt to reduce the spread of Covid-19.

The residence ban will be introduced in Nørrebroparken, Hørsholmparken and Skateparken. The prohibition applies between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following day: Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

This only applies to certain areas of the parks, where many young people tend to hang out and have fun.

Dan and Nethe Tolstrup with their daughter Maja are some of the Danes who are sure of the residence ban.

Aftonbladet was at Skateparken in Nørrebro, at 6pm when the residence ban there went into effect.

The area had been fitted out with several large prohibition signs and large parcels. But a constant stream of people passed by on the sidewalk and the bike path next to it.

– I think it’s okay. They do it for our good. That’s good, said Nethe Tolstrup.

She and her family walked through the park to get to a restaurant in Nørrebro. All were in favor of the residence ban.

– That’s really good. But at the same time, it is contradictory. Here at the bar next door, there are a lot of people sitting together, Dan Tolstrup said.

Just Skejtparken in Nørrebro is a popular area for young people on weekends. Several passersby confirmed it.

– On the weekend there are usually between 200 and 300 people who hang out here. So there really are many. So I think it’s a good idea to have a ban here, Christian Ellergaard said.

A police patrol repeatedly passed through the area. When two women sat down to eat on a bench, they were confronted. A policeman talked to them for a long time and took notes in a notebook. The women were then ordered to leave the scene.

They left with their half-eaten sandwiches in hand. The Aftonbladet team spoke to them some distance from the bank.

– We did not know there was a residence ban at this time. We thought it would be later tonight. So we were surprised, Julia said.

She and her friend Mathilde were relieved that they had not been fined for resting on the park bench.

– I was a little scared, says Julia.

The ban was also enforced in Hørsholmparken on Thursday evening. Miranda Erling, 20, and her friend Sofia Prep walked through the park at 20 o’clock. They were in favor of the residence ban.

– I think it’s okay. I have been a little concerned about the spread of covid-19. I work with vulnerable people and I fear that one of them will be affected, says Sofia Prep.
