Norway may impose stricter restrictions

In recent days, infection rates in Norway have increased.

728 new cases had been reported yesterday, compared to 350 the previous week.

This is due, among other things, to two large local centers in Bergen and Sarpsborg.

– There are many different shoots in different environments. But what is common is that the restrictions are not followed, said the director of the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, Camilla Stoltenberg.

Prime Minister Erna Solberg stated that tightening the rules in several different areas, both locally and nationally, may be relevant if outbreaks are not reduced.

“14 days ago, there were signs that the infection situation was decreasing, two weeks later we see that the cases are increasing and we are still on an insecure base,” he said.

Listed several possible actions

The government took several possible steps if the infection increases further. The government mentions, among other things, reducing the number of participants in public meetings to 50 people and from 5 to 10 people in private contexts.

It may also be relevant to completely close restaurants and bars, and travel rules with “red zones” within the country. Minister of Health Bent Høie:

– If a local outbreak does not occur, it can hit like a wave over much of the country.

The director of the National Institute of Public Health, Camilla Stoltenberg, spoke about a study that shows that more than half of Norwegians have broken quarantine or self-isolation.

– It turns out that very few follow the restrictions.
