The United States now has nearly 6.4 million confirmed cases of Covid-19. But as early as April 18, many Americans had been infected by the new coronavirus.

That’s the conclusion the researchers came to in a study featured in the journal Nature.

The United States reported its first confirmed case of Covid-19 on January 21, 2020. On April 18, the number of confirmed cases was 721,245.

But a report by researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, in the United States now shows that the number of cases at this time was probably nine times higher: 6,454,951.

The explanation for the large number of deaths, the researchers write, is that many suffer only mild symptoms of the disease. Today, almost six months later, the country has 6.36 million confirmed cases, that is, almost as many as probably had or had had the disease already in April.

In addition, the United States has reported 190,872 deaths from covid-19, which corresponds to 57.97 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants. The corresponding figure for Sweden is 57.33. However, unlike Sweden, the United States has yet to notice a sharp reduction in the number of infected and dead.
