With less than two months to go until the US election, 52 percent say they intend to vote for Democratic candidate Joe Biden, in a new national opinion poll from Reuters / Ipsos. That’s twelve percentage points more than the 40 percent who say they intend to vote for Donald Trump.
But the election is not decided by national vote but by elektorsval, and Trump can be re-elected without having a majority of votes. Four years ago, Hillary Clinton received nearly three million more votes than Trump, who still won the election. According to Reuters, Trump also appears to be entering crucial states.
Reinfeldt: “Anti-Trump”
Biden’s campaign revolves around portraying himself as Trump’s opposite, says former Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt in Wednesday’s section of the Foreign Office.
Biden wants to be a near-center candidate who can win big by being “decent” – decent in Swedish.
– The contrast effect is extremely important. It’s like it’s a personal choice, an anti-Trump one, says Reinfeldt, who knew Biden and recently published a book on the American election.
“Well”
But decent has not won over all voters, even in his own party. Some young people further to the left prefer to read in the word “decents” the other meaning, that something is normal.
– To me, decent means “completely fine,” says Peg Parnevik, also a guest on the show and raised in America.
– It will not destroy the country but it will not do anything completely revolutionary.
Corona-valet 2020
According to the new opinion poll, the crisis of the crown is the most important issue for voters. 28 percent say they decide their choice, and 51 percent say they think Biden handles the crisis better, versus Trump’s 38 percent.
That Biden is seen as “anti-Trump” is supported by previous polls. Last month declared 56 percent of Biden’s voters polled that they intended to vote for him simply because he is not Trump. At the same time, 31 percent of Biden’s voters were concerned about his age and health, compared with 1 percent of Trump’s three youngest years.
